DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING

Automobile Engineering trains students in designing, developing, manufacturing and repairing of automobiles. The demand for automobile engineering is growing with the expansion of automobile industries and growing demand of vehicles.

ncreasing concern for pollution and fuel efficiency has set standards of quality – for example, making the vehicle Euro efficient – for automobile engineers. The course curriculum is designed to teach students all aspects of moving vehicles, their construction, repair and maintenance.

Automobile Engineers have employment opportunities in automobile manufacturing industry, in maintenance and service, private transport companies and Defense Service etc. These engineers have self – employment opportunities also as they can set up their own automobiles garages or maintenance workshops.

Strength of Material Lab

The strength of materials deals with the study of materials used in structural applications. In this laboratory, students are provided with the opportunity to apply loads to various materials under different equilibrium conditions and keep deformation within acceptable limits. Tests on materials in tension, torsion, bending, and buckling are also performed. Material behavior is monitored during testing and for any type of destructive testing, fracture zone and material behavior observations are a key element.

Auto fuels & lubricants Lab

It deals with the structure of petroleum, refining process, fuels. In this laboratory, students are provided with the opportunity to find out the Flash and Fire points of liquid fuels, viscosity of liquid lubricants and fuels, and calorific value of liquid fuels.

Elements of auto Engg. Lab

It deals with the study of various types of Brakes, suspension system, different types of clutches. Couplings. Gear box, Differential axle system.

Fluid mechanics Lab

This practical work determines the viscosity and mass density of an unknown fluid. Viscosity is that property of fluid which provides an indication of the resistance to shear within a fluid. A stopwatch is used to determine readings on a viscometer and hence note the rate of drop of various spheres within the fluid. The laboratory work includes a close and deep examination of the theoretical analysis of fluid dynamics.

Automotive engines Lab

This practical work determines the B.H.P., S.F.C. Characteristics curve and Heat Balance Sheet of 4 stroke diesel engine, and Wiley’s Jeep engine. It also deals with the study of Wankel engine and various types of cooling system., Carburetor and various type of ignition system. 6. Heat Transfer Lab Heat transfer has various aspects such as conduction, convection and radiation. This lab aims at providing practical in-depth knowledge about various modes of Heat transfer in same metals, different metal and water. The equipments in the lab are used to calculate heat transfer co-efficient and constants. The lab work includes Determination of Effectiveness of a Heat exchanger, Determination of Stefan-Boltzmann constant, Performance of Solar still, Determination of critical heat flux, Performance of solar water heater etc.

Auto Transmission Lab

This deals with the Study of a layout of transmission system for a front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and a four wheel drive arrangement, layout of gears and shafts in a manual type gearbox and a transaxle. layout in a manual & automatic gearbox for a two wheeler, layout of an automatic gearbox. gear shifting controls in an automatic gearbox. 8. Kinematics of Machine/Dynamics of Machine Lab Kinematics deals with the motion of points, bodies and systems of bodies. Motion in kinematics is defined as study of trajectories of points, lines and other geometric objects and their differential properties. Kinematics is used in astrophysics to describe the motion of celestial bodies. The lab work includes determining modulus of rigidity, value of coefficient of friction, displacement, velocity and acceleration by shaft etc.

Auto electrical Systems Lab

 It deals with the layout of complete wiring system of an automobile; Perform the various tests for checking the battery condition. test the charging circuit and charging motor. conduct performance test on a dynamo, alternator & starter motor. understand & test the starting circuit and trouble shooting in it.

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lab

Refrigeration is a part and parcel of everyday life. This lab provides knowledge about different needs, uses and working of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning. The lab work includes study of various vapour compression refrigeration cycles, various performance parameters on blower apparatus and cooling tower .the practical knowledge aims at complete grasping up of various devices with their use and working

Computer aided design and Graphics Lab

This lab helps students to inculcate the fundamentals of applications of computers in various stages of design, analysis and manufacturing of components. CAD/CAM lab is equipped with advanced software and hardware. The 3-D models are designed with innovation using Pro-Engineer and various other mechanical engineering softwares like AutoCAD etc.

Production Engineering Lab

It teaches the advanced manufacturing process in Automobile engineering. It basically deals with the process of chip formation. The Advanced Manufacturing Processes provide a pathway the Automobile engineers in various industrial situations. This lab work covers areas of Milling, Gear hobbing, grinding, working of CNC, lathe machine and boring etc.

Vehicle Maintenance Lab.

It study the layout of an automobile repair, service and maintenance shop, Minor and major tune up of gasoline and diesel engines, Calibration of fuel injection pump, Study and checking of wheel alignment - testing of camber, caster, Battery testing and maintenance, Brake adjustment and Brake bleeding. 14. Measurement Control & Mechanical Vibration Lab. It concerns with the Study of a strain gage, LVDT and measurement of linear displacement, inductive pick up, LDR and measurement of linear displacement, capacitive pick up, temperature transducers, pressure pick up, undamped free vibrations of equivalent spring mass system, the free vibration of system for different damper settings torsional vibration of a single rotor shaft system.

Automobile Engineering Lab.

It concerns with the study of Manual Steering Systems, Power steering Systems, Steering Wheels and Columns, Various Types of Bias & Radial Tyres, Various Types of wheels. Automotive Brake systems, Automotive Emission / Pollution control systems. 16 Auto Pollution & Control Lab It concerns with the study of Study of Pressure pickups, petrol and diesel engines both at full load and part load conditions, Testing of 2 and 4 wheelers using chassis dynamometers. NDIR Gas Analyzer, Chemiluminescent NOx analyzer, . Measurement of HC, CO, CO2, O2 using exhaust gas analyzer, Diesel smoke measurement

Tribology lab

 It deals with the pressure distribution of a journal bearing using journal bearing apparatus, abrasion index of a material with the help of dry abrasion tester, load wear index, lubricant oil analyzer, wear characteristics of different materials, different types of bearing used in industries. 18. Microprocessor and Interfacing Lab. It deals with the Study of 8085 Microprocessor Kit, 8051/8031 Micro controller kits, program for multiplication of two numbers using 8051, program to control the speed of DC motor, program to control the traffic light system using 8085/8086 microprocessors, PLC based system to control speed of DC motor, PLC based system to control stepper motor.
